A meditative prayer based on the Twenty-third Psalm, and intended to attune the mind to the things of God by declaring rejection for the things of this world. This prayer reminds us of the greater peace which comes from the internal presence of God. It helps us maintain a correct humility before our Creator by affirming that His work in our lives is ultimately done for His own glory rather than ours. At best, we may become a testament to the mercy of God and thereby draw others closer to Him and his holy kingdom. We may walk fearlessly through the evils of worldly temptations, knowing that our God and His kingdom live within us. We may exude the kingdom within our hearts for others to see; so that all men may jealously seek the God we have found, thereby furthering His kingdom more and more each day.
A Prayer based on the Twenty-third Psalm
The Lord is my Shepard;
I shall not want,
I shall not covet,
I shall not seek the things of this world.
I shall reach for the things of eternity,
the things of the spirit,
the things of my Savior and God.
The Lord is my Shepard;
I shall not want
He makes me to lie down in green pastures,
He leads me to rest beside the still waters,
He restores peace to my soul
and leads me in the paths of righteousness for his names sake.
He strengthens my spirit and makes me a testament to his mercy,
that all men may come to seek his grace,
and yearn to bear his kingdom upon their hearts.
Yea though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
through the darkness of sin,
in the face of temptation,
I shall fear no evil,
for you, my Lord Christ art with me.
You have set the throne of your kingdom upon the flesh of my heart.
Your mercy and grace have saved me,
your goodness and wisdom have taught me.
Your charity and peace have led me to the paths of righteousness
where I may strive to exude the ways of your kingdom.
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life,
and I shall dwell in the ways of the Lord forever.
